Intravenous fluid and electrolyte replacement
Patients must be kept hydrated, if necessary through
the intravenous administration of fluids. One or
two litres of normal saline are often sufficient to
make women feel less nauseous. Following reviews
of blood results, electrolytes other than sodium and
chlorine can be added to normal saline to correct
abnormalities and alleviate nausea (Ismail and Kenny
2007, Tan and Omar 2011)
