Roombeek is a shopping street in the center of the Dutch city Enschede. Although it looks beautiful, the story behind it is tragic. In 2000, there was an explosion of a fireworks warehouse where 650 houses and streets were destroyed. A few years later, the district was completely rebuilt, and a stream was put there as a memorial. The designers covered the bottom with a special coating to make it look like there are always ripples. In winter, the stone debris looks like pieces of ice that are melting away.
