Dear Students,
Please don't panic when you see this!!!
In class next week I will explain the task and I will show you an example. The below is a guideline for your reference. You should print it out.

Final Exam Guidelines (Don’t worry, we will discuss this in class also)
The final exam will test your ability to understand and respond to questions about the topics we have dealt with in class.
The exam will involve the asking and answering of questions in groups of two. You will face each other and have to answer the questions your partner asks. The time limit for this test (due to the number of students) will be 12 minutes for each group (6 for each student in the role of questioner and answerer).
Importantly, you will not be able to choose who you do the test with; instead I will put you into groups of two randomly (so you should practice doing the test with more than one other student to get used to hearing the questions from different people).
REMEMBER: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE ANY SHEET OF PAPER INTO THE TEST WITH YOU
There will be four topics which you must get ready to ask and answer questions about, namely:
1. Describing a painting or picture you love (you should use the present continuous when describing the picture).
2. A story about something bad that happened to you (past tense).
3. Describing a photo of yourself (present continuous and past tense).
4. Your Idea of how a perfect Holiday you will take in the future should be.
YOU WILL BE GIVEN ONE OF THESE TOPICS TO ASK ABOUT RANDOMLY (you won’t know which one you will get, so you must prepare for all).
Important: As a class you will need to coordinate what questions you are going to ask (you can all use the same or similar questions for each topic). FOR EACH TOPIC you must have a minimum of 8 and maximum of 15 questions.
HOWEVER, you are all different people, so if you all give the same answers to the questions this will be a problem for all of you. (for example, if when telling the story about something bad that happened to you, more than 3 of you tell the same story I will take note of your total laziness and will start lowing grades).
I will need a copy of the questions you will ask for each topic.
IMPORTANT: YOU WILL BE ASSESSED INDIVIDUALLY not as a group (this means that if your partner makes a mess of the questions, for example, this will not effect your grade).
Your grade will be based on how well you can make your partner understand the questions, but more importantly on how well you can answer them.
IMPORTANT: TO ACHIEVE THE HIGHEST GRADE: when you are a questioner you must show evidence of being able to respond spontaneously to the answers your partner gives, either by making a short relevant comment or asking a question that is not on the pre-prepared list. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT FOR THE MORE ADVANCED LEVEL STUDENTS (you know who you are), If you guys want even a medium good grade I better see you do this.
Important: You do not have to ask or answer all the questions you have memorized. We will just go on until the time runs out, which will be 6 minutes for each of you (so 12 mins for each group of 2). After 6 minutes (or before this if you have finished) you swap roles.
However, please try not to answer any question for more than 2 and a half minutes.
LAST THING: For the Midterm I gave you guys a lot of help (i.e. with gramma proofreading) but for this you guys are really on your own. I will give an example of what you must do in class but we will not devote any more class time to this test.
It will be up to you guys as a group to impress me by, for example, getting the gramma right for the questions you memorize.
Keep checking you emails for any updates.
Good luck and make sure you ask me if you don’t understand or have any problems.
You can come see me on Monday from 12:30 to 15:00 or Thursday from 12:30 to 15:00 in the office, please email to make sure that I’m going to be there and don’t have a meeting or something.
