The incorporation of Ni2+ in MgTiO3 geikielite replacing Mg2+ ions was accompanied by a progressive decrease of unit cell parameters and cell volume,in agreement with the smaller ionic radius ofNi2+. Moreover,the slight increase of cell parameters and cell volume with firing temperature observed in a selected composition (x = 0.4) indicates an enlargement of <(Mg,Ni) O> and/or bond lengths,which at the same time could a rise from an increased polyhedral distortion,in accordance with the distortion theorem for coordination polyhedra.
