Inner Mongolia autonomous region with vast territory and long
history is the second largest plateau in China, is lying on between
1000 and 1500 m above sea level and covers 700,000 km2 in the
northern of China. Although some parts of this plateau were arid
Gobi deserts, the plateau possesses a gentle rolling terrain and
vast grasslands. It extends from the northeastern plains adjacent
to Mongolia to the southern Tibetan Plateau and consists of four
major types: meadow steppes, typical steppes, desert steppes, and
