The radiation shielding intended glasses containing Bi2O3, PbO
and BaO that had been synthesized by melt-quenching were investigated.
It was found that the total lm of the glasses increased with
increasing their Bi2O3 and PbO concentration as the result of
increasing photoelectric absorption. The lm of the Bi2O3 and PbO
glasses are comparable. This suggests that Bi2O3 can replace PbO
in radiation shielding glasses. For the BaO glass, although there
was no significant change in the lm values with BaO concentrations,
the glass exhibits shielding property, i.e., the half value layer
