Indian Heliotrope is also known as Turnsole Both "heliotrope" and" turnsole "refer to the way in which the downward leaning flower spike straightens and turns the flowers to the sun as they open. It is native to Asia, but is now found. across much of the Eastern United States. It grows from 15 to 50 cm. in height. The ovate-oblong and hairy. The flowers leaves are opposite, alternate, are all on one side of the spike terminals and the lower flowers open first. The fruit is composed of two ovoid nutlets. It grows in water lands throughout the tropics.
