Gram-positive cocci were the predominant bacteria
cultured from our specimens, followed by gram-negative rods.
This is consistent with other studies.11e24 In this study, S. viridians
were the most commonly isolated bacteria (from
odontogenic infections), found in 71.6% of samples, followed
by S. aureus (from skin infections) (15.6%). Multiple studies
over the last 3e4 decades have shown S. viridians to be the
predominant species (Table 4), and some show S. aureus to
