New Drugs Online (NDO) is a dynamic searchable database for NHS staff that can be used to:
Provide monographs on specific drugs in clinical development (from phase II trials to product launch and beyond)
Produce reports for horizon scanning based on a number of criteria including possible launch date, BNF category, stage of clinical development, and pharmaceutical company
Information is currently available on 1552 active monographs, including data on licence extensions and new formulations of marketed drugs. NDO also contains links to independent evaluated information, where available, for drugs pre-launch and up to two years post-launch.
NDO is maintained by the UKMi pharmacists who regularly scan drug development information from electronic and paper resources. Many of the monographs are linked to more in-depth information available from NewDrugsFile, a specialist pharmaceutical resource that contains details of global events relating to the development and licensing of new medicines.
NDO forms the basis of other UKMi publications notably the Prescribing Outlook series, available via NeLM. This is a horizon scanning resource produced to support medicines budget planning in the NHS. Prescribing Outlook contains only a fraction of the detail contained in NDO. Anyone in the NHS who requires information on any drugs in development on an ad-hoc basis or requires information to supplement and update that in the Prescribing Outlook series will find NDO useful.
