The SURN Principal Academy originated in 2012 in response to feed¬back from SURN superintendents who expressed a need for professional development and support for new administrators within their districts. This role novelty, inexperience, and diversity of background and preparation among new administrators resulted in the development of a comprehen¬sive professional learning experience for principals, designed specifically to strengthen instructional leadership capacity, supervisory skills, and a professional network of job-alike colleagues working and learning together to resolve problems of practice.
