On this issue of library automation, technology may eventually come to the rescue, though much later than most of the faculty think it should. If we wait a few years, the cost of sufficiently powerful computing equipment may get down to the point where the need to ration Boolean searches is not quite as severe as it is now. But this is certainly a problem that we're concerned with now, because of this new capability. My discussion of issues here has been rather devoid of solutions, but welcome to the real world.
