Enclosed by a bottle that looked at least unusual, Only the Brave was presented by Diesel in 2009 as an oriental woody fragrance. Reportedly inspired by Renzo Rosso, the brand’s founder and his knuckles tattoo, realized to celebrate his 50th birthday, Only the Brave was developed by a trio of perfumers: Alienor Massenet, Olivier Polge and Pierre Wargnye.
The selection of ingredients in Only the Brave has places an emphasis on the accord of lemon that confers it a bracing character. As a result, the top notes are dominated by the Amalfi lemon that is present alongside mandarin orange. In the mid development, which is taking place at about 20 minutes from the first spray, you will detect an aroma of violet, in a blend with coriander and Virginia cedar. For the final part, the sensual accord of leather is subdued by the association with benzoin, styrax, amber and French labdanum.
Apart from the above mentioned tattoo of Renzo Rosso, the fragrance was inspired also from the company and charity foundation called Only the Brave, a property of Mr. Rosso. The scent comes in a fist-shaped bottle (modeled after RR’s fist) that may be placed in several positions: horizontally, vertically or leaned on the wrist. The name of the fragrance is engraved on a metallic plate, attached to the bottle.
The advertising campaign for this product has 3 different versions, a different model being featured each time and one of these is the American hip-hop artist and actor, Common. In spite of the fact that it did not convinced me (partly because of the bottle), Only the Brave is aimed at a man who wishes to declare his masculinity and sometimes this might become boring.
