We define organization-based self-esteem as the degree to which organizational mem- bers believe that they can satisfy their needs by participating in roles within the context of an organization. People with high OBSE have a sense of personal adequacy as organizational members and a sense of having satisfied needs from their organizational roles in the past. Thus, organization-based self-esteem reflects the self-perceived value that individuals have of them- selves as organization members acting within an organizational context. As a result, employees with high OBSE should perceive themselves as impor- tant, meaningful, effectual, and worthwhile within their employing organi- zation.
