Bicuspid aortic valve associated aortopathy
Ascending aortic dilatation occurs in association with a bicuspid aortic valve. Although there is a
risk of dissection, advanced aortopathy is uncommon in women of childbearing age. Pre-pregnancy
root replacement should be considered when the aorta is >50 mm or >45 mm if concomitant aortic
valve surgery is required. As with other forms of aortopathy, elective caesarean section delivery should
be considered in patients with ascending aorta >45 mm.
