Habitat
The admiral butterfly lives in Europe,North America, and Asia. The Admiral Butterfly can typicaly be found flapping its wings in a garden ,big citys, near sea shores, or even thick wooded areas.
Behavioral Adaptations
The Admiral Butterfly can only survive in warm climents so it migrates to the north in the spring to feed on lusch vegitation and then uses the strong winds at high altitudes to migrate south for the winter. That's why the Admiral Butterfly is seen circleing high moutains during the migration period.
Structural Adaptations
Adult Butterflies and Moths feed by sucking liquids through a tube called a Proboscis. When the butterfly lands on the flower it uses his proboscis tube, as a drinking straw, in order to get the nutrients it needs. Admiral Butterflies not only get nutrition from plants, but Admiral Butterflies can all so get nutrition from old droppings from other animals.
Captivity
Admiral butterflies are easy to breed in captivity. In fact if you catch a wild female and put her in a cage , she will lay eggs.Because she has more then likely all ready mated with a male. All you have to do to the cage is nettles for the larva, spay the cage with water reguraly ,and provide some shade with direct sunlight. They are wonderful to release, because they are a migratory species. In the winter they die, so in a result they will not conquer other butterflies species. If you don't intend to release them, then you will have to put them in your fridge. They will need to be fead once a month, because they don't truely hybernate.
