The increased belly lying (combined
with tendencies for reduced time spent lying laterally
and time spent on slatted floor when lying laterally) may
reflect a need for reducing the heat loss from the skin
surface but may also be a consequence of reduced time
with udder exposed in the case piglets spend less time on
the colder floor in the days after farrowing, as previously
demonstrated in Pedersen et al. (2007).
