It is an important revelation that participants expressed food safety concerns even with formal restaurants that are supposed to operate under strict regulations. The findings in this study clearly show a lack of confidence in the safety of food offered in fast food restaurants. However, it is also likely that for many consumers, their perceptions of safety factors are inaccurate and can affect future consumption decisions and the reputation of food producers and providers. There is therefore a need for regulatory authorities to continuously enforce the various guidelines and rules and ensure that restaurateurs comply with them. Regulatory Authorities need to be more open and inform the public of all the steps being taken to improve food safety and if possible publish the list of complying restaurants as it is being done in some countries including the USA. By this, it may be possible to increase consumer confidence in the safety of food offered in fast food restaurants.
