New technology and improved functionality on the web has meant that designers can now employ movies, sound and animation to enhance the user’s experience. With technologies such as macromedia Flash, now supported by most personal computer, dynamic, highly interactive Web content has become commonplace. One result of this progress is that the gap between the early programmers of the internet revolution and the pure graphic designer has narrowed to the point where the two disciplines are now inextricably linked. The designer has far more scope for creativity, but in return must learn new technical skills.
