Although the intercropping combinations of Wpwo and Wpwoc
appear to have more peanut pods per plant, no statistically
significant differences were detected for peanut parameters
(Fig. 3). There was a 31% reduction in watermelon Brix in 2012 in
the Wpwoc treatment combination compared to its corresponding
monoculture (Fig. 4). However, it is unknown whether this
reduction was caused by competition from okra (although no
reductions were evident in other intercropping combinations
with okra) or due to the downy mildew infestation. No other
differences were detected in watermelon quality for both years.
