Along the Great Ocean Road in Fairhaven, Southern Australia, sits – or should I say, delicately balances – a unique beach house that doubles as an illusion. Called ‘The Pole House’, the oceanfront home appears to be floating in mid-air, with only a walkway connecting it to the ground!
The trick, however, reveals itself once you look at it from another point of view. Turns out, it stands on a 131 foot beam that helps pull off the illusion. Inside, the house has floor-to-ceiling retractable glass walls that allow you to enjoy the surrounding views.
Created by F2 Architecture, the luxurious house can be rented out between AUD$440 and AUD$1,220 a night. It’s a bit expensive, but nothing says ‘romantic getaway’ like being perched on a floating, magical house high above the ocean.
