Global political power has affected the public space of communities
worldwide. Public space has been used to create identity for cities and been significant to various interest groups as a way to present themselves. They have served as the bargaining and contesting spaces of interest groups, both associational and nonassociational. Public spaces have become a major space for cultural activities to create community identities and the opportunity for urban economic growth with cultural tourism. Because of this, public spaces have served to present the relationship among various power levels from the public, private, capital and people sectors. They have also served as an operating space on cultural hegemony to establish the symbolic capital by the power groups with economic and political major roles.
