how understanding cultural difference is the core challenge and is often overlooked by
leaders; paying attention to culture used to be very important if you were going to work
in another country. In 2011, even if the leader never works abroad, he or she nonetheless
will be exposed to a world of different cultures due to the globalization of business.
Leaders should have an understanding of the cultures with which they interface in a
globalized world. Thomson and Inkson warned that the risk of cultural misunderstanding
could compound failure:
