This means that seeds of this species could germinate in at least two consecutive rainy periods, as has been foun for Aechmea bracteata (Goode and Allen, 1979).
In the absence of regular rain, this high longevity would allow T. caput-medusae to develop a persisten seed bank (sensu Thompson and Grime, 1979) as has been found with other species of epiphytes (Nadkarni and Haber, 2009).
