The urban water supply network [35] covers an area of about
9.2 km2 at an altitude ranging between 300 m (at El Cristo storage
tanks) and 150 m (lower part of the city) above sea level. There is a
main distribution pipe, with a diameter between 400 and 800 mm,
which allows for maintaining the necessary pressure in zones far
from the main water storage facilities. The remainder of the network
is composed of about 200 km of pipes with diameters
between 50 and 800 mm. Due to the age of the facilities, they are
made of different materials such as iron, Poly-Ethylene, Ductile ,Foundry, concrete . . . etc., although nowadays, most of the pipes
in urban areas are made of Poly-Ethylene.
