When I look at the map of Asia, I always recognize the blessing of geographical proximity between China and Thailand. It only takes me around 2 hours 30 minutes from Bangkok to Guiyang by plane. Judging in term of distance, Bangkok and Guiyang are only 1,564 kilometers away, while Guiyang and Beijing are 1,728 kilometers away. For freight transport, Kunming, or “the Gateway to ASEAN” is only 1,764 kilometers away from Bangkok, compared with 2,677 kilometers away from Beijing. To connect with Thailand would mean to connect with ASEAN’s market that has combined gross domestic product (GDP) of 2.4 trillion US dollars. With the promotion of transport and internet connectivity, I believe that the future can be thriving for our young generation in China and ASEAN, if an educational institution can provide them with both intellectual engagement and hands-on experiences for conducting businesses and trading wisely in this newly integrating economy.
