Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) from a ruptured aneurysm accounts for 5% of all strokes. It has a high emotional and financial cost owing to the young age of victims and high fatality. Early aggressive resuscitation and critical care management have been shown to improve outcomes. This paper presents a case study of a patient who required intensive care management following SAH. The initial impact of the bleed is considered, as are complications of the bleed, evidence-based treatments, monitoring and how these influenced the patient’s management in intensive care.
