N ow you have another chance to get out the paints and get away
from the computer for a while. I love using real paint because it frees me up to play, letting the paint dictate the image instead of starting with a photograph from my digital camera. If you’ve never used paints and want to give it a try, go for it! It’ll help you learn to think differently about what makes an image—fiber texture, brush strokes, and accidents all combine to expand your visual vocabulary. If you’d rather print a photograph onto one of these cool substrates without any special underpainting, that’s fine too—it’s your artistic vision
