Idemitsu Unitech formulated its First Medium-term Management Plan when the company was established in 2000, and it revised this plan in 2002. The key point of the plan was the aim to be a specialist company grounded in technology, through uniting the manufacturing, marketing, and R&D functions.
Based on this plan, it slimmed down the organization through promoting Idemitsu Unitech´s own EMPLOYMENTsystem. In addition, together with aiming for a cost structure suited to a business dealing in processed resin products, it also reassessed each product and began study of restructuring of its businesses.
Later it formulated the Second Medium-term Management Plan, clearly identifying the businesses that it should strengthen, centered on the MULTILAY business that was experiencing market growth and on development of multilayer PLALOC products aiming for higher quality and higher prices. In addition, it also began seeking out new businesses in which it could put to use the unique technologies possessed by Idemitsu Unitech. Under the Third Medium-term Management Plan, covering the period of fiscal 2010 through fiscal 2012, it promoted business based on the keywords of growing businesses with high levels of added value. It made progress in streamlining and concentration of products and technologies based on the two paths of developing markets for high-performance products while still maintaining its position in general-purpose markets. While it also studied development of overseas facilities to respond to the needs of overseas markets, such efforts remained an issue due to difficulties in the electronics materials field along with the effects of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Next, as the Fourth Medium-term Management Plan took effect beginning in fiscal 2013, the company is making progress toward its goals on the key points of fully implementing swift management, concentrating resources on core products and advancing into growing markets, and proactive utilization of external resources.
