Hong Kong Arbitration Law and the UNCITRAL Model Law - Comparative Provisions
There are certain provisions which will need to be added to the model law if it is to work effectively in Hong Kong. None of these provisions make any significant difference to the model law itself. They can be regarded as refinements, probably relevant only in Hong Kong. The Arbitration Ordinance (Cap 609), which came into force in June 2011, applies to arbitration in Hong Kong. The ordinance is largely based on the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration. The Arbitration Ordinance (Cap 609) almost entirely incorporates the provisions of the UNCITRAL Model Law, including the amendments to the UNCITRAL Model Arbitration Law adopted in 2006.
