The fifth continuum involves a distinction between animated maps and static maps. Animation is another facet of how spatial information is displayed on the Web and plays a significant role in the continuing evolution of Web mapping. One matter of fact Web site uses animation to show the daily occurrence of fatalities of US and coalition troops going back to the start of the Iraq war. Opposite the Web sites with animated maps are those sites that display static maps. David Rumsey's superb collection of static maps is one Web site that fits this end of the continuum.
