The size, nature and sub-sectors of the global tourism and hospitality industry
The size of the global tourism and hospitality industry was estimated 12.7 million rooms available for supporting tourists in 2011 and increasing every year. In 2012, global trips were taken more than one billion trips and more 4% increase in 2013. (Press, 2013) From the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Thailand (2014), the greatest number of global tourists who visited Thailand in 2013, classified by nationality,is from East Asia, then Europe, America, South Asia, Oceania, Middle East and Africa in order.
Nature of the global tourism and hospitality industry rapidly growing to be high growth areas latterly and found to be the sector that the government intend to develop this topic. (Higgins, 2014)
Sub-sectors of the global tourism and hospitality industry are divided into four sectors which are private sector, commercial sector, catering sector and government related organisations. Private sector is a sector that includes all services and facilities which are classified to serviced accommodations and non-serviced accommodations. Commercial sector has similar functions to the private sector. The main goal is to earn profit. Catering sector contains food products. Government related organisations are the public sector implements policies, rule and regulations.
