Wat PhraChetupon, generally known among the Thais as Wat Pho is among the most significant Buddhist temples of the Kingdom, situated to the South of the Grand Palace. It was originally a small temple built in the Ayutthaya Period, named Wat Photharam. Following the establishment of Bangkok as the royal capital, the temple was renovated, with the area extended. Another renovation was made in the Third Reign. The design was in accordance with the belief on Buddhist cosmology.
