The educational model is intended to provide a common framework within which all the schools and colleges operate. It does not set down a curriculum, but focuses on what is distinctive about UWC’s approach to education. The deliberate diversity of the student populations is at the heart of the model, which should encapsulate the experience of every student in every college both now and in the future.
Keith Clark. Executive Director of UWC International, said: “This should not be thought of as a brand new model; what is new is that we have now defined and articulated UWC’s approach to education in a way that can be used as a tool internally and as a means of conveying what we do externally. The educational model sets down what we do now, but it also creates an aspiration for the future. It was important when embarking on this work not to create something that would stifle the innovation that is such a part of the colleges. The great advantage of a framework such as this is that it will encourage continuing development, innovation and the sharing of good practice.”
The education model is already being put to good use. Colleges are using it as a basis to consider variations to their programmes for next year, some colleges have used it actively when recruiting new staff and it is proving valuable in discussions with teams developing proposals for new school and colleges.
