Grande, France). The elution was performed at a flow rate of
0.7 cm3 min1 (waters pump, Milford, MA, USA) using sulfuric
acid 0.5 mol L1. A Shimadzu RIO-6A Refractive Index Detector
(Japan) was used for the detection of the various compounds
(glucose, fructose, sucrose, ethanol and glycerol) [27]. In
addition, NH4Cl concentration was analyzed by the Mann
Method [28]. The total sugar content was expressed in equivalents
of glucose (glucose þ fructose þ 1.05 sucrose) [29]. The
values are the average of two determinations.
