If we change the order of the sentences,the meaning does not change but the punctuation does. Look at the comma in the examples:
you'll waste a lot of water if you don't get that faucet fixed.

Unless has the same meaning as if...not:
Unless we do something,our environment will be destroyed.
If we don't do something, our environment will be destroyed.
