Artificial fruits were constructed from 500 mL glass jars
filled with 30 mL apple juice and covered with plastic film
(9.5 cm diameter) held in place with a rubber band prior to
testing. A dose of 400 μL of each oil dilution was pipetted onto
the surface of the artificial fruits and spread evenly with a glass
spatula. The control consisted of 400 μL of solvent (acetone).
Treated and control artificial fruits were placed separately into
cages. Treatments (concentrations) were replicated four times.
Each experiment was arranged according to a randomised
complete block design
