Students’ Comments
With regards to the dimensions covered during the interviews, I collected a rich source
of data regarding L2 stories about employing YouTube for language learning
purposes. In response to the interview questions, nearly all of the students found
YouTube very interesting to use during their own language learning/practicing time,
which indicates that they are already very motivated to employ this sharing website.
“It is something without which I can’t live, it is completely fun.”
As is pointed out here the students really enjoy spending time on YouTube doing
various doings including uploading videos, clips, downloading and watching comprehensive
type of texts like songs, debates, political speeches, talk shows, lectures.
Concerning the question “Is it good for English practice? How?”, the students’
responses concentrated on repetition, speaking and listening skills, the variety of language
materials and of genres.
… it does increase the knowledge of the language by repetition.
… it offers authentic examples of everyday English used by everyday people.
… YouTube is useful in many ways for learning a language because the variety of
material is out there
