2.2.1. Weight and specific gravity measurements
The specific gravity of the fruit was determined by measuring fruit weight in air (w1) and water (w2). The fruit weight in air (w1) was recorded using an electronic precision balance (Sartorius PT6, Max. 6000 ± 1 g, Goettingen, Germany). The weight of fruit in water (w2) was measured by suspending the fruit in water. The fruit, with the crown removed and a steel rod inserted into the core, was slowly lowered into about 5 l of clean tap water to full fruit immersion. Air bubbles were minimized during the fruit lowering into the water by light agitation on the fruit. The specific gravity was expressed as follows:
