The FieldMeasurement Program (FMP)was conducted by EPRI forPMV&Dfrom
March 1980 to June 1981. The field measurements were conducted in and around
Kincaid Power Plant (39.59 N, 89.49 W) in Central Illinois, approximately 25
miles southeast Springfield, U.S.A. The Kincaid Power Plant is surrounded by flat
land with some lakes. The terrain is at an elevation of approximately 180 m a.m.s.l.
The roughness length was estimated to be 10 cm.
The principal objective of the FMP was to generate a set of field data to enable
rigorous validation of existing ground level concentration prediction models representing
emission from tall electrical power plant stacks (operational validation)
and to serve for further model refinement and development (scientific validation).
The secondary objectives were the establishment of data bases that can serve for
future model validation (EA-3064 Research Project 1616-8, 1984).
The field measurements of plume behaviour and meteorological and source
variables required as model inputs were quite extensive. These measurements
