During the study period 75 participatmg
physicians delivered infants of a total of 14,007 eligible
patients, of whom 4274 (3 1%) participated in the study.
After the initial glucose challenge test screen 3836
(90%) continued with the diagnostic oral GTI. The oral
GTT result was positive in 145 patients, giving a prevalence
of gestational diabetes mellitus in this population
of women aged 2 24 years of 3.8%. For the purposes of
this report 54 multiple gestations without gestational
diabetes mellitus were excluded from the analysis. Thus
oral GTT and glucose challenge test plasma glucose
values and related maternal-fetal outcomes were analyzed
for 3637 nondiabetic patients.
