Brazil is set to raise the ethanol component of its petrol, creating demand for extra 1billion liters of the biofuel per year and providing much-needed relief for the country's sugar mills, Financial Times reports. After months of suspense in the industry, feasibility studies have now shown that the increase is viable - giving the government the go-ahead to sanction the higher ethanol blend. President of Brazil's sugar and ethanol association Unica said that, although the latest measure would not solve the sugar industry's problems, the extra demand it created would help relieve some of the financial pressure on the country's heavily indebted mills.
