MOTIVATION
There appear to be a growing number of transaction-level
research journals in the area of human-computer interaction .
These include Human-Computer Interaction ,Interacting with Computers, Behaviour and Informational Technologies, International Journal of Man-Machine
Studies, Human Factors, and International Journal on Human Computer Interaction .
In addition, ACM
Transactions on Information Systems and ACM Transactions on Graphics regularly publish UI related articles .
There are also a growing number of conferences on computer-human interfaces (SIGCHI,Interact, HCI International, the Human Factors Society Conference), and
many books .
The attendance at the SIGCHI conference has been growing steadily, and is expected to be about 2000 in 1990 .
SIGCHI is ACM's fastest growing special interest
group, growing by 14 .39% in Fiscal Year 1988 and 22 .25%
in 1989, compared to a decline of 2.9% (1987) and an
increase of 6.88% (1988) for ACM as a whole .
1 Other details about the meeting are described in the article by Peter Poison in this issue .
SIGCHI Bulletin April 1990 8 Volume 21, Number 4 SIGCHI now has over 4200 members .
