Global market for the enzymes of microbial origin having environmental and industrial applications has significantly developed during the last decades. It has elicited a search for new microorganisms with biotechnological potential for enzymatic production. Brazilian tropical soils are bestowed with a microbiota that exhibits an exceptional capacity ofenzyme productions; unfortunately, to a large extent themajority of these microbial communities are unknown.1–3Several strains of bacteria producing cyclodextrin glycosyl-transferase (CGTase; EC: 2.4.1.19) have already been isolatedfrom different environments in different parts of the world, including Brazil.4–8There are a few studies exploring thesoils from the State of Bahia, Brazil, for the isolation ofmicroorganisms with biotechnological potential for the pro-duction of this enzyme.
