Although the importance of breakfast has been studied since the 1960’s, the habit of
skipping breakfast has become very popular among children and adolescents. In a recent study
conducted on 612 fourth grade students, a significant amount (27%) reported they skipped
breakfast three or more times per week (Gross, Bronner, Welch, Dewberry-Moore, & Paige,
2004). In a different study one in five adolescents were found to skip breakfast (Videon &
Manning, 2003).
