Melon (Cucumis melo L.) leaves naturally infected with G. cichoracearum DC. were obtained from the Department of Agriculture, Serdang, Malaysia. A conidial suspension was prepared by scraping and washing the conidia from the leaf surface into sterile distilled water (SDW). The conidial suspension was centrifuged for 5 min at 4,000 rpm, and the conidial counts were adjusted to approximately 5 9 105 conidia ml-1 using a haemocytometer. Morphology of G. cichoracearum DC. was examined using light microscopy.
