On their peak days, the permitted withdrawals of water at each of the five sites are 107,000 gallons, 36,000
gallons, 25,000 gallons, 999,000 gallons, and 101,000 gallons, respectively. The volume of water required
for natural gas development in the Marcellus Shale in New York will obviously increase the amount of
water withdrawn from river basins to meet the needs of high-volume hydraulic fracturing. The SRBC
has developed an interactive map to track the water withdrawal and well pad (the area at the surface that
immediately surrounds the well. It contains the machinery and equipment for drilling and fracturing and
