Dear all,
Year 2014 is now coming to a close and it is indeed already pretty quiet in the wind market, although there are still number of wind project developing furiously today, but mostly in project development stage.
In 2014 we had a tough wind business environment, Thailand market especially had a difficult business environment, with the changing the renewable energy payment mechanism from Adder rates to Feed-In Tariff scheme, change in supportive program (e.g. BOI, etc.). Due to this, new wind projects in Thai market had low activity in 2014.
Looking into 2015, the good news is that wind target in the draft new PDP remain 3,500 MW, and some large scale wind project should survive with the FiT of 6.05 THB/kWh, if the project is developed carefully. I’m confident that we will have a good year in 2015 with good growth.
At the same time, we are continuing to improve our role and impact in Thailand wind policy. During last months, we have attended several meetings with ERC, DEDE, etc.. This will allow us to maintain our role in government policy development. Moreover, ThaiWEA signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwan Small/Medium Wind Turbine Association (TSWA) to intensify collaboration in renewable energy industries sector, and jointly support more sustainable development that provide benefits to members of the parties.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you happy holiday season, and I look forward seeing all of you in 2015, with lots of new wind energy!
