We can not relocate now because they’re mating and will be having their pups soon,” said prairie dog advocate Sandy Nervig.
Nervig estimates there are 1,000 prairie dogs on the property. Her group is asking the developer to hold off on the project for three months until they can relocate the animals.
“We just want three months to get them out of here, the mall… if they’re putting in a mall, will be here forever,” said Nervig.
Peter Cudlip from Alberta Development Partners spoke about the project at the Castle Rock Council meeting on Tuesday.
