We are now assessing federal, state and local outcomes to determine the impact on our operations and shape future engagement with elected officials that is in the best interests of our shareholders, employees and the communities in which we live and work. It is too early to make any definitive assessments.
As you know, the Company doesn’t take a position on presidential elections. The global community of P&G people represents a wide range of political affiliations and perspectives. This diversity is something we welcome, we foster and we respect. Just as diverse ideas and inclusive approaches make our business stronger, they too make countries and communities stronger.
Over the past several days, I have been reassured by the sentiments shared by President Obama, President-elect Trump and Secretary Clinton on the importance of bringing our country together; I couldn’t agree more. The business community is also lending its voice to unity, encouraging respectful and constructive dialogue.
For many of us, this campaign has been unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. It was the most divisive election I’ve ever seen. Many things were said, on both sides, that I believe have made people feel less safe, less included and less welcome.
It’s important for you to know where we stand. While we cannot control what happens beyond our walls, what happens inside them is absolute: We have always been and will always be a Company that believes in diversity, fosters inclusion and creates an environment for us to be ourselves authentically. At P&G, all people are welcome, all people are valued and all people are respected… period.
As a Company, we remain committed to serving consumers everywhere and we embrace our role as a global citizen. We have a proud and growing tradition of advocating for dialogue and action that drives progress. We've redefined what it means to do anything #likeagirl. We've opened conversations to remove gender barriers and racial bias the world over. We've built bridges between fathers and sons. And we're working hard to make progress with the seemingly intractable challenge of understanding each other through respect and inclusion and partnering externally to ensure communities where our employees live are as inclusive and safe as possible.
As a world, a nation and a community, we will continue to differ on things, sometimes vehemently. But we believe we are at our best when do so respectfully and assuming good intent in one another. This is the foundation of who we have always been and who we will always be. Now more than ever, our Purpose, Values and Principles will serve as our guide.
