A new antifungal substance, designated blasticidin by the authors, was isolated
from the culture broth of a species of Streptomyces. This antibiotic is particularly
effective against rice blast. In this paper a report is made on the taxonomic study
of this strain, its cultural condition, the purification process and some properties of
this antibiotic
